Car-Life Transmission is a non-franchised, family-owned business which has serviced the Tidewater area since 1980. We are the most technically advanced, and well equipped transmission shop around. That's why they call us "The Transmission Experts." We have state-of-the-art electronic diagnostic equipment, and an extensive database library, as well as specialty tools and experienced technicians trained to work on all vehicles, automatic or standard, foreign or domestic.

At Car-Life, we feel the customer has the right to know what the price is for a rebuilt transmission before it is taken apart for inspection. That's why we have POSTED PRICES on the wall in our service department. We give customers a worst case "scenario" on the phone, or in person for a rebuilt transmission up front instead of just a removal and inspection price. If we can repair the transmission for a better price than our posted price, we will and we will also provide quality work and trust with a guarantee.

Fred Kent, President of Car-Life, has over 45 years of experience in the transmission business. He owned and operated 14 independent transmission shops simultaneously for over 25 years. Fred has taught courses such as Transmission Theory, Mechanical Repair of Transmissions, and Hydraulic Circuitry. The courses were so popular there was a two year waiting list to attend them. Fred also operated a parts company called "Transgear", and an export company called "Gears and Parts for Export Ltd." that shipped dyno tested transmissions to South America.

For many years Car-Life has provided rebuilt transmission services for Police Departments, Ambulances, Fire Departments, Army, Navy, Air Force, and other military branches, TRT buses, Norship Co., US Airways, car dealerships, and many other commercial accounts.

We have rebuilt extensively for oval track and drag strip race cars, as well as high performance street cars and trucks. Monster trucks to low rifers, there is no job too big or no job too small here at Car-Life.
